This girl's transformation will make you reconsider how you view your own body
A former bodybuilder has shared her body transformation and it's very different to many other transformation snaps!
Jolene Jones has shared a transformation photo of herself that is unlike many other transformation photos because it shows her going from "body builder to body lover".
"Body builder to body lover. This isn't your typical transformation photo. I went from being controlled by my grueling gym regimen and weighing chicken and having protein shakes in my purse to fully enjoying a social life. Some people might say this is 'letting yourself go' but you can't put a price tag on happiness.
"I call this finding myself and realizing I can have more than one passion in life, whether it's hiking up in Glacier Park or enjoying beers with friends."
Weighing your chicken and having to constantly drink protein shakes doesn't exactly sound like our cup of tea either, though it is pretty amazing what she was able to achieve, it's just that it's no longer something that's important to her. She added:
"A six pack didn't make me happy. I was never enough and always needing to improve. Today I went rafting with friends and enjoyed food the old me would have drooled over and wouldn't have dared to touch.
"Your body is quite LITERALLY the only thing that gets you through this life, your worth and joy isn't weighed by what you can lift or what the scale says. My worth is weighed by those I surround myself with and the smile on my face."
Speaking to Refinery29 Jolene explained that while she was at a healthy weight when she began body building, she was influenced by the people around her who had "higher expectations of what a 'healthy' 'good looking' female should be".
"It became a challenge to myself and also my relationship to prove myself and others wrong... So the gym kind of became an obsession to me but I didn't realize that maybe it was an unhealthy one."
She decided to quit when her bodybuilding coach asked her to lose 30lbs (13.6kg). Jolene told the publication:
“I knew I would be miserable trying, I had also developed a new social life and didn't want to feel held back.”
Since sharing the photo it's been shared over 46,000 times with more than 11,000 comments with many commenting with how happy and healthy she looks in the photo on the right. Countless people applauded her for not letting society tell her how she should look and instead focusing on finding a medium between being healthy and happy.
