Who Are BTS And Why Is The World So Obsessed With Them?

Here's why you should join the BTS army

They’re the biggest boy band in the world that you probably don’t know much about.

BTS is a seven-member South Korean boy band that began in 2013, and have quickly dominated pop culture.

Yep, you read that correctly - there are seven members!

They just dropped their latest album, Map of the Soul: Persona, and recently became the first K-Pop group to ever perform on Saturday Night Live.

If you’ve only just become a fan though their song Boy With Luv - which we’ve had on repeat all week - or you’ve never heard of the group before, here’s everything you need to know about BTS.

Their name has different meanings

BTS stands for the Korean expression Bangtan Sonyeondan, which literally means ‘Bulletproof Boy Scouts’.

In 2017, BTS announced that their name also stands for ‘Beyond The Scene’.

They have a huge social media presence

In both 2017 and 2018, BTS were the most retweeted celebrities in the world.

Their fans, appropriately named BTS Army, will come for you if you say anything bad about the group online.

They produce most of their own music

If you look through the group’s discography, you’ll see that each of the members have written a number of songs for BTS.

Their rap/hip-hop/dance style is also thanks to their producers Pdogg and Slow Rabbit.

They’ve worked with some major artists

Nicki Minaj featured on a version of their song Idol last year, and they’ve also had songs remixed by Steve Aoki and co-written with The Chainsmokers.

Their latest album also features a song co-written by Ed Sheeran, as well as the single Boy With Luv featuring Halsey.

They have some massive collabs in the works

Western artists have quickly realised the power that the group hold, and singers like Shawn Mendes, Troye Sivan and Zedd have all expressed interest in collaborating.

We are begging that these songs get released soon!

They’ve made K-Pop history

Not only are they the only K-Pop act to get their own Twitter emoji, their album Wings became the highest-charting and best-selling K-Pop album in the US.

Everyone needs to become a stan immediately.
