Portia De Rossi has quit acting. Here's the reason.

She'll make one last appearance.

Looks like we won't be seeing Portia De Rossi on our screens anymore.

The Arrested Development and Scandal star has confirmed that she's quit acting to work on her business, art curation and publication company, General Public.

She explained her decision in an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, 'cause when your wife is daytime TV royalty, that seems like a good way to make public announcements.

Admittedly, Portia De Rossi isn't the biggest fan of press, as mentioned by Ellen:

"You aren’t a big fan of doing press and talk shows so thank you for being here. She really doesn’t, that’s why she quit acting.”

Portia went on to explain her decision to quit:

“I was approaching 45…I just kind of was wondering is there something that I can tackle now that I’ve never done before that would be really challenging and different."

"I kind of knew what acting would look like for me for the next ten or twenty years, so I decided to quit and start a business.”

As she made the decision to quit 18 months ago, you're probably wondering why you'll still be seeing her on Arrested Development season 5. The show's creator Mitch Hurwitz, kind of just... made it happen through stubbornness?

"Shonda Rhimes wrote me off Scandal, it was fine. I called Mitch Hurwitz, who’s the creator of Arrested Development and I said, ‘If there is a season five, I won’t be doing it because I quit acting'."

“He seemed understanding and totally got it and we had a great conversation and then he wrote me into five episodes. Don’t know how it happened but yes I am on Season five.”
