Melbourne Public Transport Strikes Will Impact Multiple Days This Month
Maybe call in sick?
You might want to start thinking about alternative routes to work this month.
The Rail, Tram, and Bus Union today informed Metro Trains that Melbourne’s train drivers will participate in a full-on strike in August, walking off the job for four hours on Tuesday, 27 August.
The strike, which will take place between 10am and 2pm, is part of an ongoing industrial action by the Union over pay and work conditions.
This strike is in addition to two other planned days of strikes, expected for Monday, August 12 and Monday, August 19.
The strike action will see staff refuse to check Myki cards, wear uniforms, open ticketing fates or enact scheduling changes. There will likely be large delays, so start making carpool arrangements now so you’re not stuck on a bike share.
RTBU officials are striking to push for a 6% rise in annual pay for its workers; thus far they have only been offered only a 2% rise by Metro officials.
