Margot Robbie cast as Barbie in live-action film
The similarities are uncanny...
In what seems to be a casting made in heaven, Margot Robbie (with Mattel Films and Warner Bros) has announced she will step into the iconic role of Barbie in a live action flick.
Look at this picture and tell us this isn’t the perfect casting.
We dare you.
Margot expressed her love for the iconic doll in a statement:
“Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication … [and] has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president”.
"I'm so honoured to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide”.
Warner Bros. chairman, Toby Emmerich, also weighed in, explaining that Margot is the perfect person to “bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way”.
Amy Schumer was originally slated to play the iconic blonde but pulled out in 2017, and Anne Hathaway was even rumoured to take her place at one point.
According to Variety the 2017 script was rumoured to be similar to Enchanted, where Barbie gets kicked out of Barbieland and forced into the real world. But considering the project changed hands from Sony to Warner Bros, it’s fair to assume that it won’t be the same script.
The film is in the early stages of production, so we don’t have any deets about plot or release dates. Though with the combo of Warner Bros, Mattel, and Margot at the helm – it’s sure to be a doozy.
