One of the all time classic films, "10 things I hate about you" has some interesting facts lurking behind the scenes...

1. Kat's famous poem only took ONE shot. Her tears weren't scripted, but Julia Stiles simply felt it in the moment.

2. Another improvised scene in the film was when Heath Ledger plays with fire.

3. Josh Hartnett and Ashton Kutcher were both considered for Ledger's role as Patrick.

5. The film is actually based on the Shakespeare play "Taming of The Shrew", and many elements from the original script are actually kept in for the movie - EG. "I burn, I pine, I perish!"

7. Bianca and Kat's surname is "Stratford", based on the fact that Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon.

8. Patrick's surname is "Verona", which is where his namesake in "Taming of The Shrew" was born.

9. The High School they all go to is called "Padua", which is the name of the town "Taming of The Shrew" is set in.

10. "Cameron James"'s character is a play on the name of famous director James Cameron.

11. You know how Kat finds out she got into college at Sarah Lawrence? That's actually where Larisa Oleynik went to college.

12. Patrick was SUPPOSED to sing "I think I love you" by the Partridge Family to Kat, but ends up singing "I love you baby" by Franky Valli and the Four Seasons.

13. The production manager Ross Fanger's name appears on the detention list.

14. Allison Janney, who plays Principal Ms Perky, improvised that famous "Kat. Meow" scene with the mug… “That was me. I do that on some movies when I feel like the atmosphere is right and [director] Gil Junger was open to it and just let me do whatever I wanted to do. I was really thrilled about that one.”

15. That red car that Kat drove in the film? Actually belonged to Heath Ledger.

16. David Krumholtz (Michael) had to teach Andrew Keegan how to draw a penis on his face. “I remember distinctly that Andrew didn’t really draw a good penis and I kind of showed him how to draw a penis,” he says of the show’s famous cafeteria scene. “I had to tell him, ‘This is what it should look like and put the tip by my mouth.’”
