Melbourne's dog café is now open for business and it's totally pawesome

Melbourne's new dog café opened over the weekend.

The dog café, appropriately named Dog House, we told you about last month opened its doors last weekend in Collingwood. Just to be clear – by dog café we don’t mean a café where you can bring your dog while you do Sunday brunch with friends – we mean a café primarily catering to hounds.

The venue’s co-owner Anuj Yadav told Broadsheet the café’s first weekend was a big one.

“Labradors, Rottweilers, French bulldogs, greyhounds, German shepherds. You name it, we had it.”

He even said he ran out of savoury “pupcakes” and had to emergency call in 300 more from the off-site kitchen. The café hosted a dog birthday, had a venue request for a dog marriage, and sold more puppycinos than they could count.

Safe to say, it was a success.

Anuj and his business partner Charles Fernandez explained last month that they initially wanted to create a butcher shop selling healthy meat for dogs, but the idea soon grew.

Dog House sells raw grass-fed beef, kangaroo, crocodile, emu and other game meats, all displayed in cabinets butcher shop-style. The venue will also sell dog shampoos and conditioners, handmade dog collars, and dog-friendly treats including cookies, doughnuts, cakes and muffins.

And once you’ve your dog has selected their meal, the café offers an outdoor courtyard with 10 gated booths to dine in. Sound like heaven? We think so.
